Bio
Michael Navarra brings over 32 years of coaching experience and a deep passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court. A graduate of Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, with a degree in Organizational Communication, Michael has built a distinguished career coaching at various levels, including Pfeiffer University, the University of Central Florida, Rollins College, Paul Smith’s College, North Country Community College, Plattsburgh State, and most recently, leading the Saranac Lake High School Women’s Varsity Volleyball team to five consecutive Section 7 Championships.
Recognized for his leadership and impact, Michael was named New York Volleyball Coaches Association Section 7 Coach of the Year in 2019. His coaching philosophy centers on recruiting competitive, hardworking athletes, fostering a winning culture, and ensuring academic success for student-athletes. Under his guidance, players have earned All-Conference, All-District, All-State, and Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Returning to Smitty Nation as the head volleyball coach, Michael is eager to build on the program’s success. During his previous five-year tenure at Paul Smith’s, he developed lifelong connections with students and alumni - relationships that transcend wins and losses. With four national tournament appearances in the last five years, the program is poised to continue its momentum, recruiting high-IQ, talented athletes with the ultimate goal of winning a national championship.
Michael is excited to lead Paul Smith’s Women’s Volleyball into its next chapter, shaping a team that thrives in competition, embraces growth, and excels academically.
