PSC Choppers Take First Place in Two Divisions at ESF Meet

The Paul Smith's College Woodsmen's team performed well this past weekend at the SUNY ESF Spring Meet held at the Tully Field Station in Tully, NY.  The PSC teams all preformed consistently well throughout the day.  The Men's 1 and Jack 'n Jill 1 took first overall in their respective divisions, while the Women's 1 placed 3rd overall.  Adding to the strong performance were the Men's 2 (6th place) and Jack 'n Jill 2 (5th place) in the middle of their tables.  
 
Team Packboard, Sawing, Log Roll and Pulp Toss were all very competitive with the PSC teams posting some of the fastest times of the day.  Men's 1 Captain and Single Buck Sawyer Zach Cowperthwait put up a very impressive Single Buck time of 17.5 second; the second-place time was 26.5 seconds, with most other teams averaging 30 seconds.  Men's 1 Axe Thrower, Ryley Burrows, earned 16 points, with the second-place score being 9 points.  Jack and Jill 1 Single Buck Sawyer, Brian Redmond, posted a first-place time of 23.5 second; the second-place time was 41 seconds, with most Jack and Jill teams averaging 50 seconds.  Jack and Jill 2 Captain and Bow Sawyer, Cal Barber, completed four bow saw cuts in 27.4 seconds; the second-place time of 29 seconds was from the PSC Jack and Jill 1 team, all other teams were over one minute.  Women's 1 Stock Sawyer (chain saw), Madison Franco, completed her cuts in 10.6 seconds; all other times were more than 12 seconds. 
 
When asked about the weekend, Men's Head Coach Keith Braun was pleased with the entire team performance, saying "I'm proud of all of the Paul Smith's Woodsmen's Team competitors. Everyone showed up to the competition confident, composed, and ready to do their best, and the results at the end of the day certainly reflect that."  The full team results are shown below:
