Potsdam, NY & Oswego, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College women's hockey team showed everyone why they are the #3-ranked program in the nation, blasting 36 pucks into the nets of Clarkson and SUNY Oswego over the weekend while allowing just one goal against.
On Thursday night in Potsdam, NY at the vaunted Cheel Arena, the Bobcats outshot the Golden Knights 85-14 en route to a 6-1 victory. Samantha Barrett (Oak Park, IL) scored a hat trick and added an assist while Dariana Patterson (Wilmington, NY) scored a brace and Grace Davis (Croghan, NY) tallied the other goal. Davis, Lilly Gogan (Cornish, NH), and Logan Shumaker-Gromek (Sparta, NJ) contributed solo helpers while Lola De Toni (Ottawa, ON) earned the win in net.
"This year feels a lot like my freshman year when we made an incredible nationals run," said Barrett.
Friday and Saturday night's games were mirror images of each other, as the Bobcats completely dominated and outplayed the host Lakers 15-0 in both matches.
Friday saw Barrett tally seven points (5G/2A) while every other Bobcat in the lineup got on the score sheet. Evelyn Noakes (Clifton Park, NY) had 2G/2A, Davis added 1G/3A, Lindsay Palmer (Clifton Park, NY) had 2G/1A, Leola Brown (Brooklyn, NY) contributed 1G/2A, Shumaker-Gromek nabbed 1G/1A, and Maggie Mendes (Dartmouth, MA) had her first multi-point game with 1G/1A.
"The transition has been really smooth. The team has made it easy to settle in and find my role. Going into playoffs, I feel confident in the way we're playing together right now," commented Davis.
Mendes followed up her first collegiate goal with a hat trick on Saturday.
Riley Newcomb (Cazenovia, NY) also scored a hat trick on Saturday while adding an assist as the Bobcats controlled play and got everyone involved. Patterson (2G/3A), Barrett (2G/1A), Davis (1G/3A), Gogan (1G/1A), and Brown (1G/2A) had multipoint games for the visitors. Maddi Summa earned the win in net, stopping all 14 shots faced.
"Maggie is a total team player, so watching that third goal go in for her hat trick was a fantastic moment for all of us," said head coach Rob Burke.
The Bobcats are 11-4 overall and 3-3 in the competitive Independent Women's Club Hockey League (IWCHL).
