Women's Basketball Honors Seniors
Paul Smiths, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College women's basketball team honored its graduating seniors Finnley Jacobson (Vergennes, VT) and Delaney Curley (Montrose, PA) on Wednesday Night, hosting the visiting Word of Life Bible Institute Huskies in the host team's only competition of the 2025-2026 season.
Even though the 66-38 loss wasn't the fairytale ending the seniors may have wanted, the support they receieved from their teammates, coaches, family, friends, and PSC community is something that will stick with them long after they walk off the court for the last time.
Senior forward Finnley Jacobson has won many accolades over the years at PSC in both basketball (as All-Conference) and volleyball (as All-American). "I am so grateful that we were able to get in time to play. Coach Zo is incredibly dedicated to us as players and none of this would have been possible without him. I'd like to thank Zo, Mercedes, and (former coach) Brad Rideout for giving me an amazing three seasons with the program, and I'd like to thank each one of my teammates for the work they put into the season despite low numbers. I would also like to thank my family for the support and encouragement throughout," said Jacobson.
Jacobson was terrific in her final game, putting up 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block as she showcased her versatility on the court.
"Finally, I'd like to thank Delaney Curley, my amazing roommate, teammate, and best friend. There was no better person to share this closing chapter with," she added.
Curley has had a lingering injury that made her unsure if she'd even be able to participate in the game. In the end, she stuck it out and for more than half the game, finishing with five points, four rebounds, two assists, and one block in her final game as a Bobcat.
"I'm incredibly grateful that Coach Howlett and the rest of the team were open to playing in whatever way we could. Between injuries and the seasson cancellation, I had reluctantly accepted that my basketball career had come to a close, so having the opportunity to take the court for Paul Smith's College one last time and celebrating Senior Night meant the world to me," said Curley. "It wouldn't have been possible without my teammates stepping in the gym to make the most of our situation, and Coach Howlett looking out for us and never giving up on finding ways for us to play the sport we love," she added.
Head coach Alponso Howlett spoke about the importance of the two seniors and what they've meant to both him and the basketball program. "I would like to thank WOLBI for allowing us to play an exhibition game and to be able to honor our two seniors, Delaney Curley and Finn Jacobobson. I want to give Delaney and Finn a special thank you for allowing me to be their coach this season and taking over the program. If it was not for them I wouldn't have gotten this opportunity to be their coach. I want all alum and member of PSC women's basketball that played here in the past to feel connected - once a Smitty always a Smitty. Thank you both for giving me this opportunity and best of luck in your future careers," commented Howlett.
