Nine Qualify for US Nationals at the Cock A Doodle Shoe in Sub-Zero Conditions

2015 Cock A Doodle Shoe Snowshoe Race

US Snowshoe National Qualifier

Fourteen members of the Paul Smith's College community took part in the Cock A Doodle Shoe Snowshoe Race in Saranc, New York in sub-zero temperatures on Saturday, January 17^th.  Tyler Dezago finished second in the Nicolas Pendl 5K in 33:00 to qualify for US Nationals.  This was Tyler's first snowshoe race.  Jess Setter was the first junior woman to finish the 5K.  She completed the course in 42:39 to also earn a spot in nationals.

Both Cody Dennis (7^th place) and Grace Mayhew (19^th) completed the 5K course in 41:34 and 1:05:45 to represent Paul Smith's College in this race honoring former Paul Smith's College runner, Nic Pendl who died late this past August on the campus.

Master's runner, Alan Cushman finished in 6^th place in the 10K in a time of 57:22.  He was the first runner over age 40 to finish the course.  Joe St. Cyr finished in 7^th place in 58:16 to qualify for US Nationals.  Eric Kowalik qualified for nationals with a time of 1:02:55 and a 9^th place finish.  Paul Smith's College senior, Llew Palmer finished in 15^th in 1:14:25 to earn his second trip to nationals.

For the women, Lauren Brieant was the fourth woman to finish the 10K, completing the challenging course in 1:19:56.  Lea Anthony finished 7^th for the women in 1:31:40 while Sarah Butler, Amanda Preston, and Bianca Fournier finished in 10th – 12^th.  All of the Paul Smith's College runners who took part qualified for nationals, which will be taking place in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in late February/early March.
