Local 107 Wins Inaugural PSC Cornhole Championship
Paul Smiths, NY ~ The duo of Larry Parece (Woburn, MA) and Omar Uqdah (North Adams, MA) were victorious in the college first-ever competitive Cornhole championship, which took place on Wednesday, April 15th.
Their team name - Local 107 - is the "union" that was formed by the students who work in the athletic department at Paul Smith's College. But instead of union dues, workers compensation, and insurance, the representatives use the moniker more for school pride and representation among the student body, with a snazzy logo and tshirts to boot.
Next weekend at Word of Life Bible Institute (WOLBI) in Pottersville, NY, the Local 107 will compete in the Yankee Small College Conference's (YSCC) first-ever league championship. Paul Smith's College, WOLBI, and Southern Maine CC will send four teams each to compete in the inaugural tournament.
Joining the tandem of Parece and Uqdah representing the Bobcats will be Phil Matthews (Half Moon, NY) & Ziggy Mlodzinski (Lawrenceville, NJ) aka the Cornivores, Jacob Butler (New Gloucester, ME) & Bryce Calderwood (Liverpool, NY) aka Shuck Dynasty, and Oak Haslett (Grimsby, ON) & Tony Pinski (Perrysburg, OH) aka War Machine. Colin Palmer (Clifton Park, NY) & Attila Quesnel (Montreal, QC) are also on the team as alternates.
The Local 107 go through the preliminary rounds quite easily before defeating War Machine in the semis. They then had to win two out of three against the Cornivores as both teams were undefeated going into the championship.
"Winning the first inaugural cornhole tournament means a lot - it means Omar (Uqdah) and I will be a part of PSC history forever and to represent the school at a conference championship is an honor," said Parece, who will act as captain for the Bobcat cadre at next weekend's tournament.
"Very proud of Mr. LP3 (Parece) himself as well myself for being able to bag the cornhole tournament as this is the first in school's history - there was a lot of talent out there that we had to face," said Uqdah. "The honor of being able to represent PSC at word of life is exciting," he added.
