Empire State Games 5K Snowshoe Race - at the Paul Smith's College Biathlon and Nordic Ski Center
The Empire State Games 5K Snowshoe Race will hold registration (bib pickup), start, finish and awards at the Paul Smith's College Biathlon and Nordic Ski Center at 2:15 PM on February 1st.
Empire State Games 5K Snowshoe Race - moved to the PSC Biathlon and Nordic Ski Center
The Empire State Games 5K snowshoe race will be moved to the Paul Smith's College Biathlon Range and Nordic Ski Center, about 2 miles from the VIC's main lodge. Please enter the Paul Smith's College Alumni Campground into your phone and this will bring you to the entrance to the Biathlon Range across from the Alumni Campground. It is winter, and we have at least 3' of snow ~ the Alumni Campground is closed and not plowed out.
There will be plenty of signage to guide you off SR 30 and onto the Keeses Mills Road. The entrance to the biathlon and Nordic center is about 3/4 of a mile down the Keeses Mills Road and the entrance will be on your RIGHT. There is additional signage to guide you onto this snow-covered gravel road. It is approximately a mile from the Keeses Mills Road to the Biathlon area and parking is available.
Please be aware there will not be hot and cold running water and flush toilets at the biathlon area. There are portable toilets, and a heated canvas tent. We recommend stopping at the gymnasiums as you enter the Keeses Mills Road as you will find heat, flush toilets, and hot/cold running water.
The event was scheduled to begin at 2 PM. We have agreed to delay the start until 2:15 to allow anyone who gets to the VIC is re-directed to this back country location, yet still among the 4,000 acres of the VIC property.
The 5K course will be quite hilly (challenging), and is extremely well groomed and marked. It will be used for a collegiate ski race earlier in the morning, so we do not have to do any changing of the course from the morning to the afternoon. Awards will take place immediately following the last runner finishing the event.
The Paul Smith's College VIC has other events taking place on Saturday February 1st, and this alternative location seemed to be the best alternative for Empire State Games.
