Bobcat's Race the Best in US at Supertour
Lake Placid, NY ~ Mt. Vanhovenberg Ski Center
The US Super tour rolled into Laked Placid last weekend bringing the top US Professional athletes, college teams, and top jr athletes in the country. The Paul Smith's Bobcats tested their fitness in the two-day event with a 1.25km Classic Sprint on Saturday and a 10k Mass Start Skate on Sunday. This was the first super tour experience for the Paul Smiths athletes and the experience and performances did not disappoint.
The Saturday 1.25 classic sprint was a new experience for nearly the entire team as it had not yet been contested in a college race and is not a high school or Jr. event. Competing against the best in the US left little room for error but the Bobcats were up to the task with Aidan Ripp leading the men's team with a 59th place showing with teammates John Thompson and Logan Jensen both collecting top 90 finishes. The women were led by Dolcie Tanguay with a 99th place finish in her first attempt at this technical event.
Day two of the super tour found the Bobcats on comfortable footing if not challenging positions the majority of the Bobcats started on the back row of the mass start leaving a mass of athletes for them to navigate through in the race. Despite the challenges, the Bobcats were once again up to the task with Dolcie Tanguay leading off the day with a 69th place finish followed by teammates Kaisa Bosek in 103rd and Jessie Church in 108th place.
The men were led by Aidan Ripp who weaved his way through the pack to finish 35th which was the 3rd best finish for college men and was only beaten by skiers from NCAA Division 1 team. Ripp was closely followed by Gus Whitcomb in 58th place and a top 15 college finish, and Diego Schillaci in 91st place. Logan Jensen had an incredible finish after getting tangled up in a crash at the start and breaking a binding, he lost three minutes at the start of the race but was able to chase on solo in the three-lap race to finish 109th place!
The Bobcats return to action this weekend February 4th and 5th at the Paul Smith's VIC
