PSC Paddlers Excel in Canton Canoe Weekend ~ Day 2; Win Collegiate Co-ed Relay
Despite the steady cold rain and high water, the Paul Smith's College paddlers made the best of early spring-like conditions on the Grasse River Sunday in Canton, New York.
Ben Jacques and Dylan Kirk combined to win the 12-mile C-2 Men's Amateur race in a time of 2:06:31. If they had raced among the professionals, they would have finished right in the middle of the pack.
PSC coaches Jon Santor and Kirsten Domas paddled in the C-2 Amateur mixed category and placed second in 2:00:46 over the 12 mile river course.
Ian Haines and Justin Andrews had the fastest time of the day in a stock boat, winning the C-2 Men's Stock event in 2:21:24 over the 12 mile course.
For Haines, Andrews, Jacques, and Kirk, this was their final collegiate race before graduation. They completed their senior Capstone presentations the previous day, missing out on Day 1 of the Canton Canoe Weekend.
Ashley Evans (SO) and Dave Kucia (JR) collaborated to win the 12-mile C-2 Mixed Stock race in 2:27:13.
The weekend ended with the three stage canoe relay races, and Little Brown Pig was once again victorious on the Grasse River. Dylan Kirk, Dave Kucia, Bianca Fournier, Ashley Evans, and Matt Fuirst combined efforts to win the collegiate division over college teams from SUNY - Canton and St. Lawrence University. For Dylan, Bianca and Ashley Evans this was their second consecutive relay win at Canton. Little Brown Pig has won the relay race five times since 2008, including 2009, 2010, and 2013.
A second PSC relay team with Chris Peterson, Nik Pendl, Matt Williams, Llew Palmer and Jacob Polfleit placed second in the men's division, and 4th overall in the event.
